FAZE ALONE IS BACK 2012

Looking good and fresh, he’s returned with his dreads now neatly locked in a cuter way. A member of the defunct Plantashun boiz trio and a music star by every definition, Chibuzor Oji, aka Faze, has been in the music game for no less than a decade. Chibuzor Oji, aka Faze, Stepping up the game He came alone with Faze Alone after the group’s break-up and reinforced his decision to stay in the game with Independent; his second album. The Kolomental crooner has had to cut short his tour in the United States which lasted a month and a week, to launch his new and third album titled Originality, while also premiering the video of his latest single in the same vein. Showtime’s Lolade Sowoolu engaged the singer in his hotel room a few days after his arrival and he had a lot to say including that he’s stepping up the game. Enjoy it.
Welcome back.
So did you miss home? Yeah I did. Why not? Definitely. Naija for life. How I no go miss Naija?
What exactly did you miss?

I missed everything about Nigeria, you know. Basically, I missed pounded yam, egusi, okro, We go there, dem give us Pizza and burger so tey I nearly sick, honestly (I was fed with pizza and burger till I nearly fell sick). Although they had African restaurants there, most of them were far away from where I was staying.

So you did not miss trafic and NEPA?

Traffic dey America o. Forget it. Sometimes we had to by through train. It’s just that they have traffic time. That’s five o’ clock when work is over.

How many cities did you visit?

I went to Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York and some other places. New York was actually where I was staying so from there, I had to fly to some of the other places. To some places I had to go by road, so it was fun. It was massive fun. How did the tour go really? Oh wonderful, we thank God. I got people talking to me on Facebook. They wanted to be sure I was there (in America) so I had to get on FB.

How many shows did you play?

I played about five shows although I had like twelve to fourteen shows to play, because I was coming for my launch, it (the remaining shows) was shelved. I had to be here to promote my launch, that’s why I actually came back. I’ll be going back in October. I’ve been nominated for MOBO and Channel FazeO awards too.

Oh really. In what categories?

Best West African Act in both.

So you’re on a sort of break to promote your new album?

Yes, that’s the basic thing I’m doing right now. And I’m trying to do my launch on the 4th of October.

How are you going about the promotion?

I’ve been trying to invite dignitaries like I mentioned in the Originality song. That’s those that we learnt from like Onyeka Onwenu, Ras Kimono, I was speaking with Ras Kimono in America. Someone gave me his number and I called him right away. He was impressed, but I couldn’t meet with him.

What remarkable thing happened on the tour?

The crowd response. It was impressive, I didn’t expect it. It was like I was starting all over again. It was like a new album just released meanwhile, it was the old one, they’ve not heard the new one. I was particularly impressed at the response to Originality. I put the single on the net, that’s on myspace- www.foreverfaze.com and I think people have been listening to it. I was expecting that I was going to be singing the song with the people watching but instead, people were singing along. Honestly, I was very impressed. So they loved Originality.

Which other songs did you play?

I played Spend My Money - a new song from my album and then another one called Yawa.

So you’re already promoting the new album outside the country?

Not on radios, only at shows. I just felt they should have a feel of me. I know that Nigerians always want to respond to me because they know my songs so I’m looking at Nigerians outside the country and non-Nigerians that love me too. I just want to see their response so I’ll know if it’s (the songs) a way forward or not. And it was positive. There’s a song they really loved. It’s titled I’m in love.

What are we expecting to see on the 4th of October?

The video of Originality will be an exclusive on the launch day. So if anyone wants to see it, he has to be at Planet One on the 4th. I’ll be performing; come expecting Faze to dance on stage. I’ll be dancing with my group. I’m gonna get P-Square on stage, D’Banj, Rugged Man and a whole lot of my friends (fellow artistes) will be there, so we’re having a big party. The big thing everyone should look forward to is the exclusive video of Originality.

About how many tracks are we looking at?

Fifteen. If I had my way, twenty-one (laughs). I have Spend My Money, Yawa, Hold Your- where I featured D’Banj, Tomorrow’s Leaders, Play Ball, I’m in Love, Tattoo Girl (remix) and Originality as some of the tracks. I intend to make sure that this album lasts for two to two and a half years. I’m believing that by God’s grace. You know most albums last for about a year and half or two but I have concepts behind this album. For instance, I wrote a song for BBC Africa titled Tomorrow’s Leaders. It’s played on a programme called “Nigerian Schools.” It talks about how to improve our educational system in Nigeria and how the children need us to support them and not just the government.

What happened to the Independent Real Mix album?

I looked at the environment and you know time waits for nobody. I had issues with the marketing aspect of that album; Law says ‘delay decreases equity.’ I work according to environment and acceptance. Like now, I know Originality has been accepted and people are waiting for the album. That’s why its release is fixed for the 6th of October.

Why have you decided to celebrate this video and your third album in such a big way? ,

because you have to step up the game. There are many people out to criticize. They go like ‘You’ve done it the first and second time, let’s see if he can pull this one through’. I have to step up the game because I have a lot of competition.
I have a lot of fellow artistes that are in the same game with me. They are pushing me to make things happen. I believe we can compete with the international artistes in terms of video quality and presence. I don’t want anyone looking at me like a one-hit maker. I thank God for the grace he has given me to write my songs and also for giving me good ideas to work with Wazbeat who produced about ten songs on the album including Originality. There’s Spark and a new boy called Jay Sleek too.

Who’s shooting the Originality video?

My brother, Dede, is directing the video. They call him Achiever. Then I have Wudi Awa. He’s the guy that directed Kolomental video. I know he’s a man of ideas. I have a good team.

Is there anything else you want to add?

Please let them hear me; I am giving them honours to be at my venue. All the music icons that have been there from the start and also the honourable governor of this state (Lagos). They should come and support me at the launch because their presence will really encourage and make me happy.

Do you have any sponsors yet?

I’ve been speaking to some and I’ve gotten a few responses but whatever happens, my show goes on. I put my money to it and then make it happen.

KEY A ON GUITAR WITH SOLFA NOTATIONS

From this diagram, whenever you hold your guitar, you could easily look through this diagram to learn where to put your fingers and at what position a given tone is.

For you to get the feel of it and do it yourself as a case of practicality, you need to pick up your guitar and play your key A using this diagram and I believe you will find it invaluable.

Be free to leave your comment on my blog.

GETTING TO KNOW THE KEYS OF A GUITAR STRINGS (lesson one)

Below are the strings of the guitar and they are labeled from key E to key E .
Conventionally, guitar strings are numbered from the right side to the left side, that means E=1,B=2,G=3,D=4,A=5 and E=6. When it is said string one you will know that it is E and string two you will know that it is key B that also apply to the others.

But how I learnt mine in terms of the numbering was different, “from the left to the right ,”just exactly the opposite. That would be E=1,A=2,D=3,G=4,B=5, and E=6.It all depends on how you could be comfortable learning it.

The point is there is no fixed way of playing it and understanding it but there is only people that have tried there own method and it worked and are trying to sell their ideas to you.Just understand that even you can write your own songs and play them with your guitar.

Please your comments are welcome.See you again on my next post

A MUST KNOW ABOUT GUITAR

Why Should I Know Something About Music Before I Start To Learn Guitar?

This is an analogy of a kid who asked his mother “why should I go to school before I start reading- hahahaha. Well that’s me. In as much as that question sounds very tentative we must understand that  it is a good starting. Knowing that you don’t know and wanting to know is another privilege in itself.
Then we must start to learn and know why we should know something about music before learning guitar. Firstly, we must ask ourselves, what is guitar used for? .In a very simple sentence, guitar is an instrument of music. Without music there would be no guitar and without guitar there would be music. You can now deduce that to get started with guitar you must first have a basic knowledge of music.

Can’t I Just Learn The Guitar Even Though I Don’t Know Anything About Music?

To know the basics  of music does not mean you are going to go through a lot of long streaks of stress, No that is not it. To say you can’t learn guitar without any basic knowledge of music does not mean the same thing as guitar is boring to learn. Guitar is fun and when you get to master it you don’t seem to leave it anymore because you have gotten it right. You can’t learn guitar without knowing the basics of music and I shall make it simple for you to understand as we go on.

Must I Learn A Guitar Before I Can Play It? NO!

This question is very interesting .It is not exactly like asking whether a child should crawl before they walk ha ha ha. Playing a guitar does not require learning. Anybody can play a guitar to bring out sound. But you must understand that there is difference between playing guitar to make a good sound and playing guitar to make a noise. As anybody could eat anything so also is playing a guitar. Using the example of eating anything, we all know that it is not everything that is good for our body. As such, we must learn the food to eat and the food not to eat. Therefore it is not all sounds that are good for us. There are those we don’t want (noise) and there are those we want-we explore these to bring out music and don’t forget we learn guitar because of music. You can play guitar without learning it as long as you are not playing it for the purpose of music.

How Can I Enjoy Playing Guitar?

This actually is simple but complicated if we see it that way. First I would suggest you learn the guitar first. Then when you can now play it enjoying it will naturally surface because starting a course and been able to finish it and know it, is satisfactory and each time you remember that you are now a guitarist and you pick up the guitar and play, you will get the feel.

How Can Guitar Make My Life Better?

Being better means different things to different people. And I would assume here and dedicate this to general problem and that looking for how to be better means your present state is not better. As such, there are some problem somewhere that need your attention. Irrespective of how severe it maybe you can always get a way to take care of the situation if you could only remember the rule below. But before then, remember that Guitar has all the keys the keyboard has and can play all the songs the keyboard can play but in a way that is unique to it. About how guitar could make your life better? Being a fan of music and knowing how to play a guitar is a panacea to a lot of problems if only you go by this simple rule “Never forget your guitar in time of distress” Forgetting may mean several things here. For instance you are so concerned with the matter at hand and you forgot your guitar, Or  you just reason I cannot play that now and it wouldn’t even do anything. No! you must set at it and play it or just call your colleague, pal etc. to play you your favorite music with it lo and behold the effect would be spontaneous and phenomenon.

Must I Know Staff Before I Can Play Guitar?

First for those that don’t know what we mean by staff, in here, I should take this as an honor to introduce them to it .Staff is the combination of five horizontal lines with the four spaces between them where music notes are written on.(image of staff and picture) Though as a principle to be good in anything you have to start from the basics we may not necessarily need to know the staff before we can learn guitar and that is the reason why I am writing this article for those that have been confused because of the staff issue.
Can I Make Money From Playing Guitar?
This is a question that most people ask and I dare to give it an answer. you can sure make money from playing a guitar. And even make a career out of it. You can be our next (best guitar player(guitarist) in the world)and I believe you have heard of him, if you haven’t, here is an opportunity to meet him.

How Can I Make Money From Guitar?

You will smile home after you have read this article because a great open door is what awaits you. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you think that, it is too good to be true? Well that is just how this is going to look like. But my advice here is, not to let it pass you by, because some people  will say “if it is too good it is probably bad” .In a world whereby there is abundance yet little fraction of people tend to get hold of it, one must look for a genuine way to get to the source and explore it. Below I shall list ways on how to make money from guitar.
Apply and Teach it in schools
Set up your personal lectures with people that are interested
Find musicians and play for them
Write and market articles on it
Just go out and do something about it

HOW TO PLAY GUITAR WITHOUT LEARNING IT.

Just pick up a guitar and start playing, it is as simple as that! Or perhaps you need to know a little thing about what you are playing .There is always space for everybody in everything. All you need to do is to get what you want in the right place and at the right time. As long as you are not playing guitar for the sake of music all you have to do is to play the guitar whenever you see it and make some pretty noise with it.
